Kurt Cottey - drums
A native of rural northeast Missouri, Kurt Cottey began playing snare drum in grade school. Classically trained in percussion throughout high school and college, he earned all-conference, district, and state honors, and performed in symphonic and stage bands, percussion ensembles, and the "Marching Mizzou" drum line. Kurt relinquished his amateur status and began his professional career on the drum throne while still in high school in the late 70s, when he and three friends survived the disco craze by forming a working rock-and-roll band. Over the next decade Kurt drummed for several rock, country, and jam-bands in the Midwest, Colorado, and upstate New York, while also attending college, eventually earning degrees in Physics and Aeronautical Engineering.
After graduation Kurt took a sabbatical from performing, during which he started a "real" job with a major defense contractor, married his college sweetheart, and settled down to raise a family of their own. Relocated by work to north Texas in the late 90s, Kurt entered the D/FW music scene soon thereafter, and resumed his performing career. He has played a wide variety of musical styles in a handful of Dallas area bands since then, and can currently be found laying down the groove on the backline for Shelley Laine.
